The recently released IDC report on the foldable phone market has shown some interesting trends. In 2024, the shipment volume of foldable phones in China reached approximately 9.17 million units, a year-on-year increase of 30.8%. However, despite the seemingly robust annual growth, the monthly growth rate has been gradually slowing down. In the fourth quarter of last year, the growth rate even declined by 9.6% year-on-year. This indicates that the foldable phone market may be approaching saturation. According to forecasts, 2025 is likely to be a “down year” for the foldable phone market.
Among the major brands, Huawei and Honor continued to lead in foldable phone sales. Huawei, in particular, has maintained a dominant position in the market, with a 48.6% market share. This is largely due to the strong performance of its Mate X5 series. Other brands like vivo, Xiaomi, and OPPO also have their own strategies in the foldable phone market. For example, vivo’s X Fold3 series has been well-received, especially the standard version. Xiaomi, on the other hand, has a 7.4% market share and is expected to further refine its product positioning in 2025. OPPO, despite not releasing new models in 2024, still managed to secure a 5.3% market share.
Overall, while the foldable phone market is expected to continue growing in 2025, with IDC predicting shipments to reach 10 million units, the market is becoming increasingly competitive and saturated. Brands will need to focus on innovation, cost control, and meeting consumer demands to stay ahead.
